Should My Home Business Have a Blog?

Bookmark this Article! - AddThis Bookmark Button Subscribe to this Blog! - AddThis Feed Button

It's fair to say that blogging has taken the Internet by storm over recent years. And it's no surprise that today there are hundreds of thousands of new blogs being launched every day.

But as a home-based business owner, should I have a blog?

To put it bluntly, if you conduct any part of your business over the internet, then Yes, you should have a blog.

So what is a blog?

Wikepedia describe a blog as ..... a weblog (usually shortened to blog) is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles (normally in reverse chronological order). Although most early weblogs were manually updated, tools to automate the maintenance of such sites made them accessible to a much larger population, and the use of some sort of browser-based software is now a typical aspect of "blogging".

You might be thinking that to set up a blog is far too advanced for me, but that is furtherest from the truth. Blogger.com is a Google-owned hosted blogging platform that is 100% free to use and literally takes only minutes to set up and start posting.

Secondly, you might be thinking it's going to cost too much. Wrong! The only cost is your normal web hosting. You don't even have to purchase a new domain for your blog. It can be easily attached as a sub-domain to your current business website eg: http://blog.MyBusiness.com or as a directory: www.MyBusiness.com/blog/.

So why should your home-based business have a blog? Will it benefit me?

The truth is, a blog is just one part of your marketing strategy, although it can quite easily end up being the most valuable and cost-effective way of marketing your business to new and existing clients.

Come to see your blog as a means of getting closer to your intended market.

With a blog, you are giving your home business a personality. You are chatting informally with your market and building that much sought after long-term relationship and trust.

With credibility and trust being what separates successful home business to those that fail, a well-delivered blog can help build a strong rapport with your customers, via you offering insights into your business and your industry. In a low-pressure setting (ie: there should be no hard selling at all), you are networking with your customers in a way that humanizes your business.

So how can a blog work for my home business?

Let's take an example. Your business (which by the way, you run from home) sells PDA add-ons.

By including a blog as an addition to your e-commerce site you could deliver news, facts, figures, views ... in fact, anything to do with your industry.

You can have your rant and raves on topics close to you. You could offer inside tips on using PDA's. You could provide links to other sites of interest that your customers would appreciate.

Your market will love you for your openness and willingness to chat informally, and in time you become perceived as an expert in your field.

But a word of warning. Don't start up a blog just to push sales, offering little but mere "buy from me now" posts. This is a sure-fire way of actually losing credibility.

If you view a blog as a way of communicating better with your customers (ie: talking 'with them' rather than 'to them') then you are well on your way to blogging success and more importantly ... business success.

You can ensure that your computer remains quick by carrying out Scandisk and Defrag -- two methods that are used to make your computer faster.

The function of Scandisk is to find and correct errors on the hard disk of a computer. Defrag performs the task of making sure that data files that have been stored across the disk are now reorganized in a continuous order. Defrag helps free space in which new data can now be stored. Both Scandisk and Defrag should be carried out regularly to make sure that your computer's hard disk is both error-free and not overloaded.

How Blogging Can Get You More Free Website Traffic Than Expected

Bookmark this Article! - AddThis Bookmark Button Subscribe to this Blog! - AddThis Feed Button

If you're starting a website and are in dire need of free website traffic, blogging is one of the best routes you can take. Through blogging you have the power to create new and enticing content on a daily basis to generate high traffic. Blogging allows you to see what your readers want to know and respond to them almost instantaneously; blogging tips, giving them the much needed personal attention to become successful. There are, however, a few steps you will want to consider when you start blogging in order to receive the most free website traffic.

The first step and one of the most important steps to succeeding in blogging is keeping it up to date. You have to post on your blog daily to provide your readers with fresh content. If you give your visitors new information, they will be more inclined to return to your blog to see what else you have to offer the next day. By posting every day and answering any questions you may receive, the return traffic base will give you a large amount of free website traffic.

What you post on your blog doesn't necessarily have to be about your website or product every time. Obviously you want to post often about your website and keep people informed with new offers and promotions you may have. However, posting on current information around the world or products that are similar to yours will provide your readers with a little bit of variety to spice things up. This is a sure way to be successful with blogging.

A great way to get free website traffic and returning traffic is by getting people involved. Encourage as much reader participation as possible. Don't be afraid to ask questions about any topic that comes to mind. Asking for feedback on your website or how you can better your blog is another great way to get people talking on your blog.

Dropping a post from time to time asking if anyone has any questions about anything is great way to show that you care about your readers needs and want to see them succeed. Remember, there was a time when you had no clue about internet marketing or blogging or how to run a home business. It is guaranteed that there are some people on your blog that feel the same way but may be afraid to ask a stupid question.

If you have to remember to be patient; you're not going to have a large readership right off the bat. Give it time and you will notice an increase of readership, which will lead to an increase of free website traffic to your website as well. The key to be successful with blogging is keeping everything personal and showing you care about others' success as well. This will get you the most free website traffic possible.

Huge Traffic Generation Blueprint For A Brand New Blog 2: ‘Traffic-Friendly’ Blog Set Up

Bookmark this Article! - AddThis Bookmark Button Subscribe to this Blog! - AddThis Feed Button

Part 2 of 5: Exact step-by-step strategies to drive traffic to a brand new blog, starting from scratch, and with little technical knowledge.

It is important for a brand new blog to start getting traffic as soon as possible. Traffic brings more traffic. So the earlier you can start driving traffic to your blog, the better it is. After defining the purpose of your blog, setting your goals for it and modelling after other successful blogs, now it is time to set up your blog so it is ‘traffic-friendly’.

There are a few ways to make your blog traffic-friendly. There are two parts to this.

Part 1: Make it easy for your target market to find out about and come to your blog.
Part 2: Make it easy for them to stay and revisit your blog.

To make it easy for your target market to find out about your new blog, it is important for you to know what your target market wants. Assuming you already know your target market and what they want, then you must set up your blog to provide them with what they want. Write articles that solve their problems, fulfil their needs and desires. The golden rule is: ‘Give them more of what they want.’

On top of writing articles that are beneficial to them, you also need to make your blog search engine friendly by doing some Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies. One simple and highly effective SEO strategy is to ensure that your article postings contain the keywords that are highly searched by your target market. For example, if your target market is looking for a cure for back pain, then you need to write articles that contain the keywords ‘cure for back pain’ or ‘back pain cure’ or something along those lines. You need to include the keywords to the following elements to make your blog optimized:

- Title of the article / post
- The first paragraph of your of article / post
- The body of the article (include the keywords a few times in a natural way, but do not overdo it! About 3-6 times in a 500 – 600 words article should be good.)
- The keyword tags
- Webpage meta-data: Webpage title & description

By doing the above, you will make your articles/posts highly optimized for search engines to find them easily. This also means that your target market will find them easily and arrive at your blog.

Once they arrive at your blog, you want them to stay at your blog as long as they can, and return to your blog often. The more they return to your blog, the more loyal they become. And when they are happy with what they find on your blog, they will refer others and drive traffic to your blog. That is why it is important to model after successful blogs because you can learn where they place certain elements of their blogs to make their blogs more ‘sticky’.

Luckily there are plugins that can help you make your blog more reader-friendly and sticky. There are literally thousands of different plugins available for free. You can find most of the plugins at www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins. Here are some of the plugins that will be useful for you:

- Akismet: Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to prevent spam from getting into your comment box.
- Feedburner FeedSmith: Detects all ways to access your original WordPress RSS feeds and redirects them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every subscriber.
- Get Recent Comments: Displays the most recent comments or trackbacks in the sidebar. This encourages interaction with your readers.
- Google XML sitemaps: It will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO. This makes your blog search engine friendly.
- Headspace2: Meta-data manager, allowing complete control over meta-data such as keywords/tags, title, description, stylesheets, and other goodies. This makes your blog search engine friendly.
- Optimal title: This makes your blog page search engine friendly.
- Popularity contest: This plugin shows your readers the most popular posts on your blog. This encourages interaction with your readers.
- Related Posts: Shows a list of related posts based on active/passive keyword matches. Encourages readers to stay longer on your blog.
- Sociable: Automatically adds links on your posts to popular social bookmarking sites, also making it easy for readers to subscribe to your blog.
- Subscribe to comments: Allows readers to receive notifications of new comments that are posted to an entry. Encourages interaction and frequent re-visits.
- Ultimate Tag Warrior: For easy tagging and makes your blog search engine friendly.
- Wordpress.com stats: To keep track of the stats of your blog.

Once you have these plugins in place, they will help to make your blog more reader-friendly. However, ultimately, it is still the content that will bring people in and keep them coming back for more. Imagine arriving to blog that has only one article or a blog that offers nothing useful to you, would you return again? Of course not. So before you start to drive massive traffic to your blog (which I’ll discuss in the next part of this series) you need to ensure that there are some good content in your blog.

To be continued in part 3.

www.blogrush.com - New Flavors For Your Blog Rush Widget

Bookmark this Article! - AddThis Bookmark Button Subscribe to this Blog! - AddThis Feed Button

Blog Rush will soon introduce flavors on their widget.

    MORE NEWS…

It seems that some people are trying to call BlogRush a “pyramid scheme” or stating “there’s just no way the future impressions will ever be able to be served based on the promises of what referrals will bring. The math is impossible like other schemes of this kind.”

Anyone that is saying this doesn’t understand how BlogRush works…

EVERY SINGLE IMPRESSION GETS REWARDED FOR *THAT* IMPRESSION AS IT HAPPENS. There is no “promise” of future rewards based on referral activity today. Each and every impression of the widget (and impression of the 5 headlines per widget) is rewarded AS IT HAPPENS. And when all the math is said and done, it also leaves 1 out of every 10 headline spaces left-over for BlogRush to use to monetize the service. So apparently some people think it’s all based on false promises that the network will eventually “catch up” and pay rewards in the future. This just isn’t the case. Every single impression that occurs is calculated and rewarded to the generations ‘above’ — that’s how the math has to work.

We’re working hard to move to the 100% Manual Review Process as quickly as possible, and other improvements.

As I’ve now said many times, our SOLE FOCUS is helping our members generate quality, targeted traffic. So we’re hard at work to make that happen.
